Dear Colleague:

As you undoubtedly know, the recently imposed black box warning on long acting beta agonists (LABA), has been extensively covered by the professional and lay press alike, ranging from articles and commentary appearing in the January issue of the Journal of Allergy and Immunology, to the April 6, 2006, Forbes magazine article asking, "Does the world's bestselling asthma drug sometimes kill the patients it is supposed to help?"

Published medical opinions attempting to answer the questions arising from the black box warning are often conflicting, ranging from "do nothing" to requiring the patients' signed informed consent before prescribing any of these products, leading to significant confusion by the practicing medical community as many physicians are uncertain as to how to proceed with their asthmatic patients who are currently using LABA, or for whom such products might be prescribed.

In an effort to clarify the confusion surrounding this issue, including the appropriate information which patients and physicians must know and use, the Therapeutics Research Education and Treatment Foundation (TREAT), a non-profit organization, has developed an expert panel discussions which is already available on the web. Titled Medico-legal Implications of the FDA Imposed Black Box Warning on LABA and Calcineurin Inhibitors, the broadcast reviews and clarifies the points most germane to the practice in a concise actionable fashion.

Moderated by Michael Kaliner, MD, President of World Allergy Organization (WAO) and Past-President of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), this panel of experts includes Stanley Fineman, MD, President of the Joint Council of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (JCAAI); Donald Aaronson, MD, JD, MPH, Executive Director of JCAAI; and Allan Luskin, MD, JCAAI Outcomes Oversight Committee and Allergists in Multi-Specialty Committee.

We hope that you will find this event informative, practical and objective. For more information, please call us at 703.288.0000, or email us at info@TREAT-Foundation.com.
